Gondomar is a territory known for goldsmithing, much of its history is an established relationship between Man - Workshop - Gold.

The presence of gold mining comes from pre-Roman peoples, intensifying during the Roman presence with the exploitation of mines scattered in the mountains of Pias and Banjas. From the second half of the eighteenth century, Gondomar began to assert itself as one of the most important and prolific core of Portuguese Goldsmithing.

Filigrana is the privileged field in Ourense Gondomarense, artisanal production is practiced in small-scale workshops of family nature, using techniques passed from one generation to the next.

This heritage continues to be strong in the municipality, for example, in the ranking of the eight largest Portuguese jewelery and goldsmith companies, five are gondomarenses. The Goldsmith in Gondomar registers about 60% of the national production.
